All That Glitters Is Not Gold...Or Is It?

While putting gold on your skin may seem like the epitome of luxury, is it really beneficial in your beauty routine? With so many skincare products coming out with gold-infused treatments, from eye patches to lip balms, you may be wondering if it’s really worth adding to your current staples. I did some digging to get down to the facts when it comes to using gold on your face, and here’s what I found.

Since the days of Cleopatra, gold has been touted as a luxury beauty ingredient, but what does it really do? Gold is an antioxidant, and also has anti-inflammatory properties which can reduce redness in the skin, calm acne inflammation, and protect against free radicals that can lead to sun damage and wrinkles. It’s also said to help brighten dark spots and help increase cell turnover. While the effects of gold in skincare hasn’t been tested enough to form concrete conclusions about its skin benefits, it definitely makes your complexion look more highlighted and glowy, almost like a filter due to the reflective particles. This makes it especially great as a temporary fix for those pesky under eye circles!

Because gold isn’t soluble, the risk of topically applying treatments that have it are low. With that in mind, pay attention to the other ingredients in products containing gold. Why? Because additives may cause an allergic reaction, not the gold itself. So it’s important when making a purchase not to just look at the gold in the product, but to make sure it has a well rounded list of ingredients that will benefit your skin.

Still don’t know where to start? Here’s a product that I love that has gold in it, and it also has some amazing skin loving ingredients in it that are sure to give you the dazzle you’re looking for!
