With clean beauty and fresh faces becoming all the rage, it’s no wonder that more and more and more people are now becoming obsessed with skincare almost as much as they are with makeup...and with good reason! I’m ALL for it! That being said, it’s important to know what ingredients you need to look for in skincare to make sure that what you’re buying is actually going to be effective and give you the amazing results that you want and not just an overhyped product full of fillers and ineffective ingredients. Don’t know where to start? Keep on readin’!
- Hyaluronic Acid - A powerhouse ingredient that you may already be familiar with or have heard of, Hyaluronic Acid is a great ingredient that pretty much all skin types can reap the benefits of, but is especially necessary for drier and more mature skin types! Considered one of the most common humectant ingredients out there(which basically means that it has the power to draw water molecules into your skin), this skin loving ingredient is a mainstay of anti-aging products. Your favorite moisturizer doesn’t have it? No problem! With brands like The Ordinary that have Hyaluronic Acid that’s meant to be paired with other skincare products, you can add it to pretty much anything! Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 $6.80 is available at https://theordinary.deciem.com
- Antioxidants - Just like how antioxidants are beneficial to your body when ingested, the same goes for topical antioxidant ingredients and how they benefit you when put in skincare. Luckily, there’s no shortage of antioxidants available on the market, both natural and lab made. Antioxidants work via different pathways and on different types of environmental threats to the skin, which is why it is always good to look for products that contain a potent blend of antioxidants and not just one or two. Antioxidants are crucial for anti-aging benefits, as well as protection of the skin, collagen and elastin from free radicals that cause damage to the DNA in our cells.
- Niacinamide - An absolute must have in my skincare regimen, this highly effective ingredient is becoming increasingly popular because of how good it really is! “Just what the heck is Niacinamide?”, you might be asking. Well, it’s basically a form of vitamin B3 that has shown much promise in brightening dark spots, managing acne, and fighting free radical damage that we are exposed to on a daily basis. Personally, my hormonal and painful cystic acne that I developed going into my thirties has all but disappeared thanks to this wonderful ingredient.
