The Many Different Kinds Of Blush

While powder blush may be all that you know when it comes to blush, there are actually a few different types of blush out in the world, believe it or not! Powder is likely where you started, as did I, though once you discover all the ways you can catch that rosy glow, you may have a different preference on what blushes you decide to buy moving forward!

  • Cream Blush- While I will always love powder blushes, cream blushes are definitely my favorite. They melt seamlessly into the skin with very little effort, and look flattering on everyone...and I really do mean everyone! They’re easy to use and just as easy to sheer out or build up. You can manipulate the finish so you can choose to keep it looking skin-like or dewy, or you can set it with powder to give a matte effect if you so choose. Another thing cream blushes are great for is giving the effect of “filling” or smoothing out any texture, which makes it a must have for mature skin as well as acne prone skin. This blush palette is one I slept on for a long time, and I don’t even know why, especially since I’m obsessed with the company’s foundations! Once I got it, I saw what all the fuss was about in the pro community. With five flattering shades, these blushes are absolutely GORGEOUS, and are great for all skin types and tones. Highly pigmented and made with the same base materials in their foundations. This palette will be one you fall in love with...even if you don’t love wearing blushes! Go on, give it a try! • Powder Blush- Powder blushes can be tricky to use since you can overdo the color saturation fairly easily, but nothing a nice soft blush brush and a little bit of patience can’t take care of. The key with powder blushes is to take your time with building color slowly and lightly, with the result being an airbrushed and natural flushed look. But have you ever had problems with your powder blush disappearing halfway through the day? I know I have! Well look no further than the powder blushes made by Danessa Myricks for LimeLife by Alcone. I didn’t know how truly good they were until recently. I was working on set for about 14 hours with a 3 hour drive there, and did my makeup before I got in the car. Let me tell you how this baby did not MOVE, and I wasn’t even the one who noticed it! Another makeup artist on set, after looking carefully at my face, asked me what blush I was using. Since I had been working all day and didn’t even have time to look at myself to touch up or anything, I told her what I was using and then asked why. She told me to go look in a mirror, so I did, and was shocked! All my other makeup had vanished, but the blush was still going strong and looked as if I had just applied it. Not only are her formulas made with the utmost care and quality ingredients, they CLEARLY stay looking fresh and vibrant throughout the day, and come in a wide variety of shades suitable for everyone. • Liquid Blush- There are a few liquid blushes on the market, but none compares to the ones made by NARS. The pigment packed liquid is great for those who don’t want to take too much time getting their glow on. It’s super light so, unlike powder or cream blush, you don’t have to worry about overdoing it. It goes on sheer but you can build it up for more color, and is great even without any other makeup since it gives such a skin-like effect with how sheer it can be. Monoi and Tamanu Oils help deliver a boost of extra moisture and resilience, and it can be layered easily with both foundations as well as other blushes. • Stick Blush- This is a great option for those who want the look of a cream blush with the ease of a liquid one. My favorite stick blushes are the ones made by Milk Makeup, and I’ll tell you why. This is a blush that gives you an instant, believable flush with just one swipe, though you can build it for more color. With mango butter, peach nectar, and avocado oil, you get hydration from this blush unlike any other! Not only is it a cheek color, but it’s also a lip color which means you can get that monochromatic makeup look with just one product! Plus it’s vegan, cruelty free, talc free, and is great to just toss in your bag and take with you on the go! Lip + Cheek $28 is available at www.milkmakeup.com
